daniel kapovic: Architectural Detail, Borough Hall, Staten Island
DK’s Inspiration and Reason: I don’t get around to Staten Island much, in fact I have been there a total of two times… in my life. So when I visited back in April, I had to take a few pictures. What I was surprised about was the Borough Hall right near the Ferry terminal and how wonderful it looked. I loved all the small architectural detailing the building and surrounding courtyard area had, including this large fountain basin in the photo. I like the solid feel the basin gives but although everything about it seems solid, the basin is rounded and the detailing below it, curvy and smooth. So it gives off a solid but soft feel to the entire structure. I also love the pops of color from the flowers above which draw your eye upwards to the fresh greens in the background. Overall I think it is a simple picture, but still provides a lot to look at.
